ANGOLA is situated in Southwest Africa, and has an Atlantic Ocean coastline in the West. Mountains rise from the coast, which then level to a plateau. The land becomes more arid towards the South, as is nears the Namib Desert.
The capital, Luanda, lies on the coast, and houses the fortress, the National Museum of Anthropology, and, nearby, the Museum of Slavery. There are also many fine beaches in the region.
Other places of interest include the Kalandula waterfalls (in the Malange area), and the Kissama National Park.
Cabinda is a small enclave to the North of Angola proper, surrounded by the territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Congo.
The South is hot throughout the year. The North is hot and wet from November to April, slightly cooler and drier in the other months. |
