ARGENTINA is situated east of the Andes and is bordered to the west by Chile, to the east by the Atlantic and to the North and Northeast by Uruguay, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay.
Argentina is split into 4 main geographical areas: The Andes, the North and Mesopotamia, the Pampas and Patagonia.
Mount Aconcagua in the West soars to almost 7000 metres (23,000ft) and in the southwest there are a stretch of smaller mountains framing a string of
beautiful icy lakes.
In the northeast, just below the tropic of Capricorn and near the Brazilian border, are the spectacular Iguaza Falls, which thunder into the Parana River from a height of 70 metres (230ft). These, along with the ancient colonial cities make this an area
that is becoming more popular with tourists.
The coastal resorts are also very popular, with many kilometres of fine beaches. In the capital Buenos Aires is the district of La Boca, which is the home of the Tango.
The Andes region is abundant with wildlife in its many beautiful national parks. Skiing is also available in this area, and slightly west are the vineyards producing most of Argentinas' wine.
The climate varies greatly throughout Argentina, with the North having a subtropical climate that has rain throughout the year, whereas the south has sub arctic weather.
The main central area is hot and humid in summer (December to February) and cooler during the rest of the year.
