BAHRAIN is an archipelago of 33 islands lying in the Arabian Gulf, situated between the east coast of Saudi Arabia and the Qatar peninsular, and the King Fahad Causeway links the main island to Saudi Arabia. The majority of Bahrain's oil wells are found in the area of Jebel Dukhan, the highest point.

The capital, Manama, is a modern city, with the souk lying in the centre of the old town. The A'ali Burial Mounds is the site for the large pre-historic cemetery, with approx 170,000 burial mounds dating from between 3000BC to AD600.

Bahrain boasts many long, sandy beaches and coral reefs. Dhow trips can be taken across the islands.

The climate is hot and humid from June to October, mild from December to April. Spring and Autumn are the most pleasant months. Rainfall is sparse.
