GERMANY is situated in Central Europe, and is bordered by 9 countries. It also has the North Sea in the Northwest, and the Baltic Sea in the Northeast. The landscape varies greatly, with mountains, forests, lakes, and beaches.
The Northern region has gently rolling hills, and fine, sandy beaches. It houses the port of Hamburg, Germany’s 2nd largest city, and many coastal resorts, especially in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The Rhineland is renowned for its beautiful scenery, and many tourists are attracted to the Rhine cruises. The main cities on the Rhine include Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, and Koblenz.
In the Southwest of Germany is the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, which houses the beautiful old university town of Heidelberg, (with its 14th century castle), the spa town of Baden-Baden, and the Black Forest with its mountain scenery and lovely lakes.
To the East of Baden-Wurttemberg is Bavaria, Germany’s most popular tourist area. The Bavarian capital is Munich, which boasts excellent museums, churches, and the famous Munich Beer Festival!!
To the South of Munich are the snow-capped Alps, and lovely picturesque towns and villages, such as Oberammergau, while to the East is the beautiful Bavarian Forest Area.
Germany’s capital, Berlin, lies in the East of the country.
A temperate climate, with warm summers and cold winters. Rain falls throughout the year. |
