GIBRALTAR is situated at the Southern tip of Spain, and at the Western entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, with Morocco 26km (16miles) to the South, across the Strait of Gibraltar.
It is a self-governing British Crown Colony, made up of a 5km (3 mile) promontory of limestone rock, containing over 100 caves, and miles of tunnels, and has five beaches and (almost-complete) city walls.
There are churches, cathedrals, the Gibraltar museum, a castle, and a cable-car to the top of the rock, stopping on the way up at the ‘Apes Den’, the home of the famous Barbary Apes.
The climate is warm throughout the year, with hot summers, and mild winters. |
