HAITI occupies the Western end of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.

It is mainly mountainous and forested, with magnificent beaches along its coasts.

The capital city is Port-au-Prince which lies in a natural harbour at the end of a bay.

The climate is tropical, with intermittent rain throughout the year.
