HONG KONG is situated in the Far East, and is made up of Hong Kong Island, The Kowloon peninsular, and the New Territories (which includes 260 islands). As well as being a major tourist destination, it is also a world business centre, with many luxury hotels, superb shopping centres, and a new modern airport on Lantau Island.
Transportation is good, with well-organised tours and sight-seeing trips. The famous Star Ferry carries passengers from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island and visitors should not miss this journey.
There is a wonderful harbour and a magnificent sky-line, which can be viewed from ‘The Peak’ on Hong Kong Island. This can be reached by the tram, and at the top is The Chinese Peak Tower Village with its restaurants and coffee shops.
Other places of interest include the Sung Dynasty Village, Ocean Park, Stanley Market and the fishing village of Aberdeen.
The Po Lin Monastery and the famous ‘Big Buddha’ are on the beautiful island of Lantau, which can be reached by the Ferry
There are four seasons. Summers are very hot (with the rainy season from June to August). Spring and Autumn are warm with occasional rain and cooler evenings. There is a risk of Typhoons from July to September. |
