The South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands lie Southeast of the Falkland Islands in the Southern Ocean. They are one of the most remote regions on earth being only 1,600 km (1,000 miles) north of the Antarctic continent.

Over half of the Island of South Georgia is covered by glaciers. The scenery is of very spectacular nature.

The climate is dominated by the freezing effects of the Antarctic.
